I met Ryan and Michael 5 days before their wedding.
Covid can make fools of us all, and when I was contacted about a last minute fill in I said yes immediately. The support of the community of NYC photographers I’ve found myself in is one of the most reassuring and wonderful things I’ve encountered in life. You’ve probably heard that old viral audio “You’re not my competition, because I want you to succeed too”, and it’s very true for us. But you’re not here to read me wax poetic about community in the wedding business, so without further ado: Ryan and Michael’s perfect day.
Ryan got ready with her sisters, dearest friends, and mom at my new favorite boutique hotel, The George in Montclair, NJ. If you’re currently planning for a northern NJ wedding, make sure to check them out. The multi-room suite was massive, and gave us enough space to have hair and makeup finishing up, while I shot prep photos and none of us tripped over the children or pups running around. And the details! Ryan wore her Grandmother’s perfume, other Grandmother’s jewelry, engraved a new special tag for her fur baby’s collar, and had a special patch sewn in to her dress made out of one of her grandfather’s favorite suits in order to feel closer to him after he passed just a few short months before her wedding day. And yes, I did cry like a baby when she told me about the patch.
After prep, we all headed over to the picturesque Church of the Immaculate Conception for their beautiful ceremony, and we ended the night with a high energy party that felt like it would never end at The Estate on Farrington Lake.
